The pair are in for a surprise, though, when the 53-year-old Margaret discovers that she is pregnant and John's concern for her welfare leads to a big quarrel and then to a bigger separation. Margaret has no time to feel lonely as her house immediately fills up with her adult children who are all going through romantic trials and tribulations of their own, including Margaret's daughter Mary (Kristy McNichol) who is pregnant, too.
